EXPRESSIVE ART GROUP
@ THE MET, MAROOCHYDORE
Welcome!
Expressive Arts Group is a community based 'Art as Therapy' group designed and delivered by Chony Bowden, Registered Art Teacher, and Sally Cuthbert, Registered Art Therapist. Sessions are run from The Met, in central Maroochydore. We bring together our experience and passion for creativity and wellbeing into a weekly group run as a block of sessions during Term time.
The following groups are being run in Term 3, 2023:
-
Tuesday 9.40-11.40, Adults, NDIS eligible or privately funded, 10 weeks 2 spaces available
-
Wednesday AM 9.40-11.40 Adults, NDIS eligible or privately funded, 10 weeks FULL
This group is designed for adults who would like to participate in a community based group but may have barriers to accessing this independently. Many people come to our group who struggle with anxiety and depression, have experienced a significant life event, manage chronic pain or illness, or who have a disability or mental health condition that makes it sometimes difficult to attend mainstream groups. No specialist art skills are required to participate, only a willingness to have a go and be with others. You will have the opportunity to use a range of materials and develop your confidence with these materials. Each week we provide an optional theme and selection of materials which may include, acrylic painting, inks, watercolours, wool felting, book making, clay, zentangles, mandalas, weaving, self portraits, pet portraits, flower making, stone painting and more.
We use art making to support your goals, specifically related to your wellbeing and social goals. We keep our the number of participants in each group small, with between 4 and 10 people in each group. Sessions are run over a set length of weeks, currently 10 weeks, which in our experience is a valuable aspect of the group. Consistency of people, time and place over the term increases participants enjoyment of the group as it allows for skills to grow, anxieties to reduce and for relationships to develop.
It is open to self managed and plan managed participants. If you are interested in the course but cannot make the advertised times, we would welcome your feedback.
Participants in this group have said:
"It's made a huge improvement to my self esteem, so good. It's always fun and you get to know everyone. Most of all it's helped my anxiety, loneliness and self esteem. And the teachers are great!"
"Come! Enjoy the experience, and if 'its one of those days' you can work and just concentrate"
"A very inclusive and welcoming group and so enjoyable to spend time with!"
