PARENT CHILD SESSION USING THERAPLAY

Connecting together through play

I have completed Level One Theraplay training and am excited to be able to offer this way of working to families on the coast.

This way of working is ideal for:

Birth parent/s and child

Foster parent/s and child

Adoptive parent/s and child

Grandparent/s/ kinship carer/s and child

Theraplay is "a child and family therapy for building and enhancing attachment, self-esteem, trust in others, and joyful engagement.

Based on the natural patterns of playful, healthy interaction between parent and child and is personal, physical, and fun. Theraplay interactions focus on four essential qualities found in parent-child relationships: Structure, Engagement, Nurture, and Challenge. Theraplay® sessions create an active, emotional connection between the child and parent or caregiver, resulting in a changed view of the self as worthy and lovable and of relationships as positive and rewarding.

In treatment, the Theraplay® therapist guides the parent and child through playful, fun games, developmentally challenging activities, and tender, nurturing activities. The very act of engaging each other in this way helps the parent regulate the child’s behavior and communicate love, joy, and safety to the child. It helps the child feel secure, cared for, connected and worthy."

Theraplay sessions usually begin with a structured assessment block of 3 sessions, which is recommended to provide a treatment model for you and your child. This is called the MIM and can bring great insight into your relationship and patterns you have established. Often these 3 sessions can stand alone.

Sessions last 30-45 minutes and are video recorded for only you and the therapist to view.

Please get in touch if you are interested in Theraplay.
